The XF was never crash tested, but it comes with a competitive list of safety features, which include six airbags, stability control and rear parking sensors. The 2009 XF gets 16/25 mpg city/highway, which is slightly better than V8-powered rivals like the 2009 BMW 550i and 2009 Mercedes-Benz E550, but also a bit lower than the 2009 Lexus GS 460. However, reviewers would have liked to see an all-wheel drive option for the XF, which is a common option on rival 2009 large cars. As far as handling, the XF also impressed reviewers, who said the XF performs like a smaller sports sedan.
When it was new, reviewers raved about the XF’s performance, noting that the standard V8 engine generates plenty of power, but that the supercharged V8 in the XF Supercharged model provides heart-pounding acceleration.
